Blog 01: Why I'm Here

Why I started

Thank you for visiting my first blog post! Since I've never done this before (and I'm not quite sure how to start out) I thought I would begin with explaining why I decided to start this in the first place.

I've recently realized that I ought to be documenting my thoughts. I've always liked the idea of a commonplace book, but I fear I'm just not so good at keeping up with it. I'm not really able to carry it around the type of places I go to right now. Despite that, I've always valued individual thought. I think it's extremely important that a person live to tolerate boredom; we should even be taking advantage with it. It's not only a good life skill to learn to be "bored," but it offers so much time for us to evaluate ourselves and our mindsets. I've always been a "thinker," but I've never really recorded my thoughts. I'll have angelic conversations with people about our thoughts and occassionally post something online in search for people whose mindsets align with my own, but I've never utilizaed notebooks or websites to just write down my revelations. In the little web design class I took recently, I realized that having a website for documenting these things might actually be a good idea. That's how this was created.

What I Might Discuss

Well, I know that I want to document and sperad my ideas, but what will they be about? As of right now, I love media that's trying to make a point. I also think a lot about what's around me. I'm probably going to be writing about things I love and what they're trying to convey, why I think certain things are happening in society, etc. I don't want this to be like a "little diary." I want these to be like articles. I want to spread my thoughts, not feelings. Perhaps I'll talk about my favorite things, but I want to convey the values of those things. If I do talk about how I feel about the world, I want it to be a message. Kind of like here; I may be talking about my desire to write things down, but I want this to be an encouragement to other thinkers out there to write things down, too. Don't just write things down for keepsakes, write them down so you can go back to them later and improve on them. If you notice that a lot of people are doing something, write it down. If you're listening to music and realize that the lyricist is referncing old art, write it down. Keep a collection of your ideas. In fact, that's exactly what a commonplace book is: a collection of ideas. Something to go back to later and learn about. I can't keep a physical one, so I'm keeping a "public" one here. I have high hopes for this. Expect some Buck-Tick analysis/commentary on the way people tend to behave coming soon.

Honorable Mention: Cayce

Since I'm here, I might as well mention Cayce. Her Buck-Tick blog is what gave me the idea to start writing about things. Blogs don't have to be little journals, they can be beautiful articles talking about the research you did about midievil times for a band. I absolutely love her analysis articles. Visit her blog at Blog-Tick. Unfortunately, she has recently passed away and won't be releasing anything more, so don't look forward to new articles. She was a lovely woman who kept extremely valuable Buck-Tick records for overseas fans. These were mainly kept on her website, notgreatestsite.net. However, it was shut down and she was having some trouble with it in the past couple years. There are plently of saves of the website on the Wayback Machine on the Internet Archive. Please check her old website out!
